SURVEYOR’S REPORT
A Category C designation for the displacement boat restricts this to inland and estuary use, although the offshore version is a Category B designation for more adventurous owners.
The quality of finish is exceptionally good, with sensible features like deep fiddle rails and removable locker backs to allow access to systems and wiring. The clever glass door system and saloon seating only add to its versatility and ease of use.
Points to note when considering buying:
■ As always with limited production craft, contact the builders and/or their agents to get a feel for their aftercare outlook. There may be times when you need specific information or help on the boat, and a friendly and enthusiastic response from the builder is a good sign they’ll look after you.
■ Think carefully about your intended boating requirements, not only for the immediate, but for the relatively long term. The quality and finish of this boat might make it more expensive than some but resale prices for niche market craft can vary considerably.
■ Nanni diesels have a good reputation in the industry but as always, check its service history carefully. Find out where your nearest approved dealers are too before you buy.
■ Given the amount of glass in this craft, carefully inspect all the door seals and operation of the multi-panel sliding and hinged doors. Also the roof seals.
■ Check for damage or possible repairs around the quarters, swim platform and shoulder areas, due to possible localised impact over the years.
In summary, on a sound and well-maintained example, Haines’s combination of solid build and good quality machinery and components means that you should be able to look forward to many years of comfortable and relaxed cruising ahead.
