Brothers Norberto and Alessandro Ferretti introduced their first boat – a 10m wooden motorsailer – at the 1971 Genoa Boat
Show. Fifty years later the boat-building behemoth that is the Ferretti Group exhibited the largest Ferretti branded boat to ever hit the water, a new flagship that demonstrates the design and engineering might that the shipyard possesses.
Despite its gigantic dimensions the 1000 is quite clearly a Ferretti and the shipyard’s longtime naval architecture and design partner,
Filippo Salvetti, has done a remarkable job in linking this yacht’s DNA to its smaller siblings. The exterior spaces are sprawling and include a 55 sq m flybridge and a foredeck that cascades from the windscreen to the imposing pulpit with a mix of sunbathing space and split L-shaped dinettes but it’s the transom that is most alluring. Here there is a run of four wide sun loungers neatly arranged along the boat’s stern with a glass balustrade above to separate this ‘beach club’ from the cockpit. With the dinette turned 90 degrees to the usual arrangement, everyone sitting at the dinette is treated to a view over the water and that glass partition creates a seamless link between the two areas. This whole aft section lifts up to reveal storage for a Williams 445, jet-ski and two Seabobs, ensuring the platform and flybridge are free of water toys.
On board there are five beautiful cabins set across the main and lower decks with space for five crew inside their quarters up in the bow. The master suite stretches indulgently across the forward end of the main deck and is a striking symphony of marble and timber with a vast and handsomely finished ensuite at its forward end.
The guest accommodation consists of four near identical double cabins all with their own ensuite bathrooms. And there’s a day heads situated on the main deck so that guests don’t have to trek down to their cabins every time they need a comfort break.
Astonishingly, despite an unladen displacement of 111 tonnes the 1000 will crack nearly 30 knots flat out thanks to a pair of MTUS with nearly 2,700hp per side. The biggest Ferretti ever made was always going to cause a stir and it did not disappoint.
