5 ICE COOL CRUISER

-

Estonian yard Bic-aluminium has launched a striking new crossover yacht called the Glacier 48C. Drawn by Dutch designer Guido de Groot, this all-aluminium cruiser features a reverse bow and forward-raked windscreen for a thoroughly modern but purposeful look.

Beyond the obvious outdoor spaces, it provides a fully enclosed main deck saloon and wheelhouse. Down below there’s a galley to port and shower room to starboard plus two double cabins, the owner’s forward and a transverse guest cabin aft.

With twin 600hp Volvo Penta D8-IPS800S, the top speed is around 33 knots with a claimed range of 500nm at a fast cruise of 25 knots.

However, at 8-9 knots consumption drops to 1.6 litres per nautical mile extending the range of its 2,500 litre tanks to 1,300nm.

Prices for the Glacier 48C begin at just under €1.2 million, but once fully specified expect the final invoice to be nearer €1.3-1.4m. There is also a Glacier 48 Open version.

While the brand is new, BIC Aluminium has been building commercial vessels and fabricating yachts on a contract basis for years. The Glacier 48C is its first foray into the motor cruiser sector under its own name.

The first Glacier 48C has already been sold and delivered to Russian owners, while a second is under construction for delivery later this summer 2022.

Alex Grabau at Lymington-based Grabau International, who has the second 48C on his books, says the design would be ideal for anyone looking for a striking, durable cruiser well suited to use in northern climes.
