Lying in bed last night, ruminating on life, the universe and MBY (but mainly MBY), I started adding up how many issues I had edited since I took over the helm in 2005. Rather terrifyingly, it turns out that this is my 200th issue of MBY, every one of which has caused me to wake up in a cold sweat at
3am the night after we’ve sent it wondering what errors may have slipped through the net or how I could have made it even better. You’d think I would have got used to it by now but I take solace from the fact that I still care deeply enough to lose sleep over it – not caring enough would be a far bigger sin.
The thing that keeps me going is the thrill I get every time I find an engaging new story to run in the magazine, especially when it comes from one of our readers.
This issue is no different, with my personal highlight being the start of a new series from MBY reader Iain Macneil about cruising round the world on his 76ft trawler yacht. So far so normal, except Iain isn’t hopping through the tropics from one sunny destination to the next, he’s going right through the notorious Southern Ocean past all five southern capes. It’s going to be a hell of a ride and I can’t wait to follow his progress, even if it does cause me a few more sleepless nights!
DON’T MISS OUT
Last month was one of our biggest ever for video with more than 3.3 million views on our website, Facebook and Youtube channels (see below). If you haven’t yet joined the party, can I suggest you take a peek at our latest selection of boat tours, sea trials and how-to videos. January’s surprise smash hit was the owner of the Mulder Healey showing us round his custom built boat and demonstrating the ‘ejector’ helm seats – they have to be seen to be believed!
