NEW BIKES: Honda reveals CRF300L and CRF300 Rally

-

The Japanese factory has finally updated its much loved CRF250L – revealing two new 300cc versions for 2021. With Euro 5 emissions regulations coming into force next year, many manufacturers have increased capacity to maintain performance and power. Honda’s the latest to do it, as its CRF250L (and Rally) now becomes a CRF300L (and Rally). They are now powered by a 286cc single-cylinder engine, which produces 10 per cent more power (26bhp @ 8500rpm) and 18 per cent more torque (16.6lb-ft @ 6750rpm). That’s not the only change though – there’s a steel, semi double-cradle frame and an aluminium swingarm too. There’s also longer-travel suspension, higher ground clearance, shorter ratios in the first five gears (for more torque) and a taller top gear (for higher speed road work). There’s also a slipper clutch, and a new LCD dash. There’s not a mass of difference between the two bikes, away from that stylish Dakar Rally-style fairing. The Rally is 12 kilograms heavier, 100mm wider and 215mm taller, with a 5mm higher seat height. Oh, and it also gets a larger 12.8-litre fuel tank. No news yet on pricing and availability, but the chances are we won’t have to wait all that long to see the two new bikes in the flesh. We can’t wait.
