NEW FOR 2021 – SUZUKI’S GSX-S950
We’ve just got our first look at the new GSX-S950 from Suzuki, which is based on its recently released GSX-S1000.
Set to be released this August, the A2 compliant version sits neatly in the GSX-S range, offering riders working their way up from the licence categories a chance to get in on some naked sportbike action.
Essentially a detuned version of the GSX-S1000, the GSX-S950 gets the same 999cc engine as its bigger brother – but it’s been restricted to 94bhp and 92Nm, which means it can then be restricted even further down to 47bhp required to meet the A2 licence regulations.
It also gets the same ride-by-wire throttle, slip-and-assist clutch, and Suzuki low rev assist features as the GSX-S1000. But the similarities don’t end there…
There’s the same twin-spar aluminium frame, superbike-derived swingarm and rear-shock, and some Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 rubber too.
There are some key differences though, including some less sophisticated 43mm KYB front forks, Tokico front brakes and some straight handlebars.
Set to be available in UK dealers come August, the GSX-S950 will be available in three colours: White and Red, Matt Black, and Metallic Triton Blue. At this stage there’s been no news on pricing, but we’re expecting it to be significantly cheaper than the £10,999 punters will be paying for the new GSX-S1000.
Looking at the most obvious A2 compliant competition (Honda’s CB650R, Triumph Trident 660 and Yamaha’s MT-07), we’re expecting it’ll come in at around £7000 – but for now we’ll just have to sit tight and wait and see.
