HARLEY-DAVIDSON’s new name for its electric motorcycles and scooters
The American factory is using the LiveWire name for all of its electric two-wheelers
Harley-Davidson boss Jochen Zeitz has already made it clear how serious the American factory is about electric. Outlining a plan of attack, he explained that he wanted H-D to become a leader when it comes to electric mobility. He said he’d do that by hiring some specialists from big names and putting their big brains to good use at HarleyDavidson. There’s one final piece in the puzzle, and that’s the launch of a new electric specific brand – and surprise, surprise, it’s called LiveWire.
The LiveWire is currently the only electric machine from the firm to make it into mass production, but it looks like we’re not going to have to wait too much longer to see more. From July 2021 new models will be developed, built and sold under the LiveWire brand.
The first model from the brand is set to be presented at the International Motorcycle Show on July 8, 2021 in Irvine, California. It’s going to be called the LiveWire One and it’ll have 102bhp. That’s about all we know. It could be a redesigned Harley-Davidson Livewire, or it could be a completely new machine. We’ll just have to sit tight and wait and see.
It’s expected that the LiveWire brand will function independently of Harley-Davidson.
Primarily it’ll be focusing on urban mobility, which means we’re probably not going to be seeing anything much more exciting than the current LiveWire for the time being. Interestingly, the LiveWire brand won’t be housed at the same place as H-D. It’ll split across two hubs in Silicon Valley and Milwaukee. It’s also expected to have its own range of showrooms, independent of the existing Harley-Davidson shops.
