Rossi’s fury at wild-riding Marquez
Vale says he feels scared on track with Marquez
Valentino Rossi launched a no-holdsbarred attack on bitter rival Marc Marquez after being taken out by the Spaniard on lap 20 of Sunday’s Argentinian Grand Prix.
It was yet another escalation in a bitter feud between the pair stretching back to their infamous 2015 collision at Sepang. Back them it was Rossi that came out ahead, but this time a move from Marquez pushed Rossi wide, onto the grass causing the Italian to crash out of sixth position.
The furious nine-time world champion launched an incredible attack on Marquez after Sunday’s race, citing previous incidents both during Sunday’s race and over the past few years that he says makes the Spaniard unsafe to race against.
“This is a very bad situation. He has destroyed our sport because he never has any respect for his rivals. If you take for example what happened this weekend, it can happen to anybody – you can make mistakes, this is racing, but from Friday morning he has been like this with Viñales, Dovizioso, me on Saturday morning and today in the race he hit four riders. He does it purposely, and it is not a mistake because he points his leg between your leg and the bike because he knows he will not crash but he hopes you crash.
“If you start to play like this, you raise the level to a very dangerous point. If all the riders race like this without any respect for their riders this becomes a very dangerous sport and it will finish in a bad way.”
And with Rossi believing that the move is only the latest in a series of incidents, he says that Motogp organisers need to take control of the situation before someone gets hurt. Going to Race Direction after the race to make a complaint about the situation he’s made it clear that further action needs to be taken.
“I’m scared on the track when I am with Marquez. I was scared today when I saw his name on my board because I know he has come to win, you just hope you don’t crash! I’m not Race Direction, but they will decide. Like this, he has destroyed our sport. When you go at 300kph on the track you have to have respect for your rivals.
“I do not know what is the right penalty, but I wanted to speak to Race Direction as I do not feel protected by the Race Direction. When you don’t feel protected you have to make your own, as nothing happens. If nothing happens, next race he will do exactly the same. I do not have fun when he is with me. He raises the level, he does not play clean. He does not play aggressive, he plays dirty.”
And even an attempt from Marquez to apologise in the immediate aftermath of the race didn’t come close to repairing their relationship. Marquez was blocked from entering the Yamaha garage by Rossi’s crew and Rossi was dismissive of the attempt to make amends.
“His apology was a joke and he can shove it up his ass. It was PR. He did not have the balls to come in to my office alone, like always, he comes with his manager, with Honda, in front of all the cameras because this is what is important for him. He doesn’t care about you. I don’t want him to speak to me because I know it is not true what he says to me.”

Ben Spies @Benspies11 He passes like you do when you flattrack mini bikes with friends. He’s always had a problem braking behind people as well which I don’t understand. Jeremy Mcwilliams @Mcwill99 Greatest respect for MM93’S talent but using your competitors as berms isn’t really acceptable, the crime doesn’t fit the punishment in my opinion. Alex Lowes @alexlowes22 Unbelievable talent Marc Marquez but he needs to learn some respect! Troy Bayliss @Troybaylisstic One has style, one is a goon Carl Fogarty @carlfogarty What the f**k @marcmarquez93! Don’t think @ Valeyellow46 will be buying him a beer anytime soon?!!! James Ellison @racingellison “A mistake caused by track conditions?” Lame excuse. He went around that corner about 20 times before the crash so would have known exactly where the damp patches were and if there was a possibility to pass there. YOU were the cause of Rossi’s crash @ marcmarquez93 nothing else. Jonathan Rea @jonathanrea That was a stressful race! @Motogp thanks for the entertainment! Tommy Bridewell @tommybridewell Brilliant @Motogp race! OK Marquez was a bit wild but what a ride from him! His speed and ability is amazing!
