Distinguished Gentlemans Ride 2018 raises millions in style

O Americans lead the charge

None of us really expected Harley-davidson, the most traditional of the established big manufacturers, to be leading the charge with mainstream electric bikes. But not only did they roll out a full rideable prototype in 2014, they’ve now unveiled the production bike that will arrive in dealers next autumn.

The big naked roadster comes with a twist-and-go drivetrain, and brutish styling. Performance is a clear cornerstone of the new bike, with Brembo monoblocs and fully-adjustable Showa suspension front and rear, while the motor will also be built for grunt rather than plodding. It will feature all the latest in connectivity tech.

The one significant sticking point could be the price. Harley say they’ll be releasing a whole range of affordable electric bikes over the next three years, but we expect the Livewire to cost £40k-£50k.
