The Great Gatherings team head to a packed Weston Bike Night
Hundreds hit coast for Weston Bike Night GREAT GATHERINGS O
Weston-super-mare, was flooded with hundreds of bikers celebrating the final Weston Bike Night of the season on Thursday and MCN was there to join in the fun.
“We come along every week,” says Trevor Sherwood who rode down on his XJR1300 with daughter Lily Rose. “It’s great to walk around admiring all the bikes and meet new people. I’ve made loads of friends and we go on rides together - for me, that’s what it’s all about.”
Bike Night is more than just a social event though. All attendees donate £1 on arrival in aid of the Royal British Legion. This year over £11,000 has been raised.
The highlight of the event is usually the ‘Bike of the Night’ presentation, but as this was the last of the year all of 2018’s winners had been invited back to compete for a Bike of the Year award instead. Local dignitaries, including the Mayor of Westonsuper-mare, deliberated over the winner until giving John Hendry’s 2011 custom=painted Harley Softail top honours. “It’s my pride and joy,” John told MCN, whose prize included a new set of rubber from EMJ Bike Tyres.
But the key to the smooth running of the event are the volunteer marshals who do a tireless job throughout the year. “Without them we just couldn’t do it,” says organiser Lyn Lovell. “I can’t thank them enough for all their help, as well as our sponsors and of course everyone who’s turned up to make it what it is.”
