Menzies pins his hopes for a hillclimb crown on new Gould for 2016
British Hillclimb racer Wallace Menzies hopes that a car upgrade midway through the 2016 campaign will give him the leg up he needs to claim a first title.
The Stirling-based Scot will start the year, which begins at Prescott this weekend, in the Gould GR55 that he took to third place in last year’s competition. However, he has ordered an updated Gould GR59, fitted with a 3.3-litre Cosworth powerplant.
“I stepped up to the GR55 for the 2014 season and it was a revelation,” said Menzies, who recently broke the track record at Kames during a speed event.
“It was a very driveable car. I had used a DJ chassis before that, but the Gould was a much better developed car. The handling was strong and you could tell that the chassis had had a lot of input from others. The new Gould GR59 should be a step forward from that again.”
