Karting man Webster wins on GT4 debut and plots British GT move

-

Former World and European championship karter Sam Webster took two race wins on his maiden GT4 appearances at Silverstone last weekend, and is due to debut in British GT before the end of the season.

The 19-year-old, from Dorset, joined the Fox Motorsport team to share a Ginetta G55 GT4 with Jamie Stanley for the GT Cup races in Northamptonshire last weekend. Webster raced the car solo on Saturday and scored a third place in class on his debut before winning GTA in the second. He and Stanley then shared the machine on Sunday and won.

Webster, who contested both the European and World KZ championships with the ART team before quitting karting last year, is now due to share the G55 with Stanley for the British GT finale at Donington Park in September.

“The Ginetta is so much different to what I’m used to, which is why running for a few GT Cup races before British GT is perfect as it’s ideal preparation,” said Webster, who was part of the Racing Steps Foundation driver roster during his 2012 Super One campaign in Britain.

“I’ll do the Donington Park GT Cup weekend too [August 13/14] in preparation as it’s on the same track and the same tyres [Pirelli] as British GT. Jamie has done great work getting me ready. With GTS my racecraft from karting helps as you know when to attack and how to defend, but the sensation of driving is so different.

“We’ll do a part-season this year and hopefully raise the budget for a full British GT season next year as that’s where I want to be.”
