Raymond goes through the roof with Lites victory

-

Cyril Raymond rolled his RX Lites Cup car on the opening day at Lydden Hill. While lying upside down in the joker lap section, he couldn’t have been further from claiming his first victory in the single-make category on Sunday.

However, the Frenchman qualified second at the intermediate classification, and won his semi-final and final to take the RX Lites points lead.

Championship protagonist Thomas Bryntesson climbed from the back of the grid in the final to finish second, with Simon Olofsson third.

MSA British Rallycross Championship leader Dan Rooke made his international rallycross debut in the division.

He improved throughout the weekend and by the semi-finals was on the pace of the regulars, but couldn’t find a way past the third place finisher in semi-final one and missed out on a place in the final as a result.

In the Super1600 category, Hungarian Krisztian Szabo (Skoda Fabia) avoided first-corner contact between Ernestas Staponkus (VW Polo) and Timur Shigabutdinov (Renault Twingo) to lead throughout. Twingo man Artis Baumanis finished second with Josef Susta’s Skoda Fabia scoring a maiden podium in third.

British Super1600 pacesetter Phil Chicken (Citroen) finished highest of the three British drivers in 18th, while reigning national champion Craig Lomax finished 22nd in his Citroen.

Michael Boak retired after two laps of practice after losing oil pressure in his Citroen C2.
