New booklet to help young karters

-

A new booklet has been written aimed at helping young karters to understand the rules that govern the sport.

Racing Rules Explained is targeted at novice karters aged between six and 12 years-old and is written by clerk of the course Gordon Mellis. The 68-page booklet was originally written for a Middle East series but now versions have been created for other countries.

“We all expect these youngsters to start their racing careers without really understanding the rules properly and just pick things up as they go along driving perfectly within these rules from race one,” said Mellis.

“But it’s wholly unreasonable to expect a novice driver in the junior classes to sit down, read, learn and apply the sporting rules and regulations as they are currently written.

“Racing Rules Explained makes extensive use of colour cartoons, photos and illustrations to simply ‘translate’ some of the most important text based rules, regulations and procedures into a more pictorial style of format using plain language that is more readable and easier to understand by the target age group: children.”

The book is available through local kart clubs and the Association of British Kart Clubs.
