Bladon closing on Daytona prize drive run

Mini Challenge Cooper class dominator Max Bladon insists he’s not yet thinking about a prize trip to Daytona, despite continuing his remarkable winning streak at Brands Hatch last weekend.

Bladon took another double win in the Challenge’s Cooper Class to raise his unbeaten tally to 11 races so far this year. Bladon has won every round in 2016 and is on the brink of the class title with three rounds still to go.

With the Mini Challenge being registered as part of the Sunoco Daytona Challenge, Bladon has also opened out a clear lead in the Sunoco 200 Challenge contest, which rewards the winner with a funded seat in the BMW Performance 200 sportscar race that supports the Daytona 24 Hours. Bladon leads the standings by 20 points ahead of Radical racer Steve Burgess.

“My main focus this year is wrapping up the Cooper title as early as I can,” said Bladon. “But I plan to carry on and finish the year as the Daytona prize is too good to risk missing out on.

“The minute something like that plays on your mind the minute it gets harder to achieve. I’m not putting pressure on me.”
