Classic Formula Ford 1600 fields get ready for two championship rounds at different circuits

-

The Classic Formula Ford 1600 Championship is gearing up to hold two championship rounds across two days at two different tracks this weekend, both of which could feature sell-out grids.

The Classic FF1600 field will hold a single qualifying session and a race at Donington Park this Saturday as part of the BARC meeting, before the field decamps to join the Vintage Sports Car Club at Cadwell Park to do the same on Sunday.

The FF1600 field had 30 entries for Donington when Motorsport News closed for press, leaving just two grid slots left. The grid at Cadwell Park is sold out at 26 starters.

Classic FF1600 coordinator Peter Hackett said: “It’ll be a busy weekend but we wanted to do something different and this smacks of the old school days when Formula Ford drivers raced all over the place on the same weekend.

“We’ve had to plan it carefully. For example we qualify and race before the lunch break at Donington and have the area in the paddock closest to the gate, so we can be in and out easily. Donington and Cadwell are only 70 miles apart so it makes it achievable. Mike Gardner has also booked exclusive testing at Cadwell from 1600hrs-1900hrs Saturday evening, and then we have a party planned with the VSCC to celebrate their 40th anniversary of going to Cadwell. It should be a superb weekend.”
