Formula Jedi bosses eye format switch

-

The Formula Jedi Championship could switch to a three-race format for next season and introduce reversed grid races after a successful recent pilot of the format.

Jedi racing traditionally consists of a single qualifying session and two sprint races, but the last championship round at Brands Hatch earlier this month featured two additional races, both run with a reversed top eight grid.

Jedi organisers are now evaluating a change in the race format to offer more to competitors.

“The driver feedback after Brands was very positive,” said Jedi coordinator Frazer Corbyn. “Running four races was a one-off, but the reversed grids were great as they shuffled different drivers up the order and gave different people a chance at the front.

“We’re looking into maybe shuffling the format to triple-headers next season with race two using a reversed grid.”

Corbyn added that additional TV coverage was also being explored for next year. Two of the championship’s final three rounds – Silverstone and Donington Park – are due to be covered on Motorstv later this year.
