Frank Kelly targeting Mull with free entry

Former BTRDA Silver Star champion Frank Kelly could enter the Mull Rally this year after winning a free entry on the Donegal National Rally.

The event offered a free entry to the highest-placed Irishman in Donegal and Kelly took the prize finishing second overall.

Now Kelly will bring his famous Ford Escort ‘Baby Blue’, which has become a Youtube sensation thanks to Kelly’s flamboyant and all-out style.

“We’ve been trying to get to Mull for the last three or four years,” said Kelly. “But when you get to the end of the season you’ve run out of budget or you’ve written the car off. It’s firmly etched in our calendar now providing nothing goes wrong.”

Kelly says he’s is well aware of the challenges Mull presents.

“What I’d love to do is try and get through the damn thing,” he said. “You’ve got local guys in Vauxhall Corsas catching you on stages, so I have no thoughts of winning anything. From what I hear it’s similar to bumpy Irish Tarmac.”
