Notorious Rousky stage will return to Ulster

-

This year’s Ulster Rally will feature the return of the infamous Rousky stage, one Matthew Wilson once labelled as the most challenging in the BRC.

Event clerk of the course Gary Milligan believes the stage is more like an Isle of Man test in nature with plenty of tricky parts including a demanding right-left section.

“It’s a bit like an Isle of Man stage,” said Milligan. “Up over moorland with cattle grids, you’re going pretty fast and suddenly there’s an unseen right. It becomes a bit of a graveyard for cars. It was 2004 or 2005 we had five or six cars in the bog on that corner.”

Wilson echoed Milligan’s views on the tricky section when describing the challenging test to MN in 2005.

“One bit in particular is very deceptive,” said Wilson. “You’re driving across a moor on a tight, single-track road and you come over a crest. It looks as though the road goes straight on, but it actually leads into a slow right and left-hand complex. It’s very easy to get things wrong.”

Wilson confirmed that if he could do the event in 2016 then Rousky would be a draw: “That would be one of the stages I’d look forward to and maybe one you’d pay a bit more attention to on the recce as well.”
