STUCK ROLLS BACK THE YEARS

Le Mans winner is the talking point of Shelsley Walsh Classic Nostalgia

Hans Stuck thrilled a huge crowd at Shelsley Walsh when he took to the famous hill in the 1936 Auto Union C-type.

Stuck drove the stunning Silver Arrows Grand Prix car at the Worcestershire venue’s Classic Nostalgia weekend and honoured his father, Stuck Sr, competing in a similar car.

“It brings back good memories of driving the Auto Union like my father did 80 years ago,” said the 65-year-old. “It is a very precious moment.”

Stuck set times around the 40-second mark, which mirrored his father’s pace in 1936, but ran the 1000-yard hill from a rolling start.

“I think I’m far away from what he did in 1936 but still to drive the car means a lot to me,” he said. “It is the first time I have ever been to Shelsley Walsh and it is a unique piece of history. Thanks to the team here for keeping this place alive for the fans and for the history of the sport. I’m totally overwhelmed by the place and the event. I wish there was something like this in Germany.”

The visit from the Auto Union was the headline of the weekend, which drew the venue’s biggest crowd since the centenary meeting in August 2005.

A celebration of Group B rally cars included Jimmy Mcrae driving the MG Metro 6R4 he rallied in period.

From two days of competition, fastest times of the day went to Nic Mann in the sensational Mannic Beattie with a new personal best of 25.47s and Keith Harris (Chevron B25) in 29.18s.
