MASTER MCNAUGHTON’S CUP DOUBLE

David Mcnaughton took his first double win with both Scottish BMW Compact Cup victories.

The weekend sparked an upturn in Mcnaughton’s chances for the title with the championsh­ip leaders running into difficulti­es. While Neil Macinnes started on pole, it was Mcnaughton who got the better getaway and headed a fivecar battle for the win. Title protagonis­t Lee Elrick had a spirited dice with the poleman but came off worse and a trip into the gravel cost him valuable points.

Elrick’s fight back through the field in race two proved one of the highlights as Mcnaughton once again sustained pressure from the tight field behind. Gary Clark retained his lead at the top of the standings with a determined drive through the front-running train of cars and he grabbed second place. Clark admitted to having a poor qualifying, which left him sixth on the grid. But he was pleased to be back on the podium. Cliff Harper made a fantastic move at the last gasp to grab fourth from newcomer Alistair Smith by just two tenths. Smith had enjoyed a fantastic weekend with a podium in race one and was awarded driver of the day.

Guest driver Adam Morgan started on pole position in the Minis but was beaten away by Morgan Murray, who
