Scott delighted with his pace on Loheac return

Scottish driver Andy Scott is something of a Loheac specialist, having made it into the semi-finals at the event in a strong field in 2014.

Returning in a one-off 2016 World RX appearance at the French circuit, European Championship racer Scott again made the semi-finals in the 31-car World RX field. He beat Albatec Racing team mate and reigning European Rallycross champion Tommy Rustad into 12th overall at the Intermediate Classification to make it into the knock-out races.

Having impressed with a sixth overall time in difficult conditions in Q3, Scott finished sixth in the second semi-final to end the event 12th overall and score six championship points.

“Before we arrived here my target was to reach the semi-finals once again and it was a near perfect weekend for me,” he said. “The highlight was being sixth fastest in Q3. Finishing a World RX event in 12th is by all accounts a great result. The rain played into my hands a little, as I don’t mind the slippery conditions and we took a bit of a gamble on the strategy, which paid off. It was particularly rewarding to have a great battle with Timmy Hansen in Q4 but into the semi-final I just didn’t get off the line well enough to capitalise on our performance.”

Scott will return to Euro RX competition at the next round of the World RX series in Spain, in two weeks’ time.

With a 150th career run-off win in the opening round at Prescott, it became clear that Scott Moran would lift the 2016 title in the afternoon shoot out if he came at least sixth and no more than two places behind nearest rival Trevor Willis.

With Willis and Wallace Menzies unable to better Moran’s pace in the last moments of the event, the champion took Best time of the Day and increased his tally to six titles matching the late and legendary Tony Marsh, whose sons Peter and Simon were also competing at the event.

In theory Menzies can still catch Willis but a similar scoring pattern to Prescott at Doune and Loton Park will leave the 1-2-3 where it is today.

But matters are far from settled further back in the order. There are just 10 points between Richard Spedding and Dave Uren in fourth and fifth as hillclimb fans left Prescott hoping for a tight battle in the last two events.
