BRITISH HILLCLIMB CHAMPIONSHIP TWO WINS HAND MORAN THE 2016 CROWN
Prescott
even tighter further back in the battle of three 1600cc cars with Sean Gould, his co-driver Eynon Price and Ed Hollier covered by a mere four points. But the one position of most interest to aficionados is the destination of 10th, the last of the coveted ‘numbers’ kept for all of the following season. Jason Mourant could not gain a point at Prescott but just holds on to 10th.
Just one point behind him is 2015 champion Alex Summers, who had a successful time in championship sponsor Graham Wynn’s ex-f1 engined Gould taking the car to Prescott times it has never achieved with four other drivers.
Pronouncing the engine “an exciting animal”, Summers confirmed he will not be at Doune as Wynn has decided not to travel to Scotland but will be out in the Gould-hb at the Loton Park Finale, a track at which Summers tried the car in two recent one-day nonchampionship events. Mourant will be at Doune but has never seen the course before whilst he and Summers traded BTD at those recent Loton Club events.
In the class-based Hillclimb Leaders Championship Scott Moran has a lead over Spedding and Uren, but last year’s champion, tin-topper Colin Satchell, is in fourth. In the similarly class-based Midland Hillclimb Championship – the UK speed championship with the largest registered competitor base – 1993 British Rallycross champion Mike Turpin is on course for his fourth crown since 2012.
