Irishman will be under the spotlight this weekend
While most of the eyes on Rally France will be on Kris Meeke’s charge for a third successive victory and his battle at the front with Sebastien Ogier, there will be just as much pressure on Meeke’s Citroen team-mate Craig Breen.
He has already made a breakthrough with a podium in Finland, one of the toughest events on the calendar, but now he will be tackling his first event on asphalt in a World Rally Car. It will be a whole new challenge for him, and there are some envious eyes looking on at his performance.
Given the effort Citroen has put in to its 2017 challenger, it looks like it is going to be one of the hottest seats in the service park next season. The scramble to become Meeke’s team-mate involves a number of drivers, and a lot with more experience than the Irishman.
But, if Breen can hit the ground running in France, he has just as much right to the drive as anyone else. This is probably the biggest rally of his career to date. Matt James, Editor
