BRISCA world champ Wainman Jr weighs up building brand new Tarmac car from shale design

-

BRISCA F1 World champion Frankie Wainman Jr is planning to build a new Tarmac car ready for the new stock car season, which begins on shale at Belle Vue on March 19.

Wainman Jr used his current Tarmac car during the Live Action show at the Autosport International Show last week, with his World Championship-winning shale car on display in the Oval Racing hall.

The new car could be based on the highly successful shale design, a car that gave him more shale final victories than any other driver, including victory in the World Final at Coventry last September. Wainman will defend that title at Ipswich this season, which is run on Tarmac.

“I’m still a bit undecided,” Wainman Jr said. “If I’m going to build this new one I will have to get straight on it when I get back from New Zealand [where Wainman is racing in the Team GB squad on Feb 4/5]. If I wait too long it won’t be ready in time for the new season.”

Even if the new car is ready, with the World Final being run at Ipswich, Wainman may opt to race his current Tarmac car at Foxhall Heath instead.

“My Tarmac car isn’t necessarily the fastest – and Ipswich is one of our quickest tracks, but we only race there once or twice a season, and at this year’s World Final we won’t be able to run any practice laps.

“Set-up will be based on our last race there. The track tends to be a bit slippy, as the speedway track shale can sometimes blow on to it. That will make it a level playing field.”
