DOWN THE PUB WITH
CAMERON JACKSON
Age: 30 Lives: Lincoln Historic Fford race winner
It’s a racing family “My dad, Simon, and my older brother, Dominik, both race. Dominik did Formula BMW and Formula Palmer Audi and went quite a long way up the singleseater ladder. Dad has raced forever, particularly in Caterhams in the 1990s, and we grew up around cars and race tracks. We went karting and raced at British Championship level.”
He went into Renault “I raced karts against people like Oliver Turvey and Tom Onslow-Cole. I then went into BARC Formula Renault and was just getting up to speed when I had a huge off at Croft and wrote the car off. I took a fair whack to the head and we decided not to continue.”
He stopped for a decade “I was a drummer and wanted to pursue being in a band. So I had 10 years off from racing but I always said once I could afford to go racing again and do it properly, I would.”
He came back in Juniors “I went to the Silverstone Classic and saw Formula Juniors racing and loved it. So it has gone from there and we’ve got a Brabham BT2 and I’ll be out in that at Silverstone this weekend. We won both races at the Nurburgring back in August.”
He’s won in Historic FF “I’ve really enjoyed doing some Historic Formula Ford and that’s gone really well. I also own a Classic F3 Euroracing with Dom and I just really enjoy historic racing. I hopped into Formula Ford because every weekend there are quick guys out there you can measure yourself against. I was really happy with the pace we showed at Brands in July.”
HFF is the plan for 2018 “I think the Lola T200 suits my driving style and I’m intending to do a full season next year with Neil Fowler’s team. The Lola is very, very stiff and so they move quite a lot, but they are very forgiving and it’s perfect for an ex-karter.”
Life is busy “I’ve done property development with Dom and that helps with the racing, but I’ve got a young family as well and my wife Emily and I had a daughter this year. We’re building our own house so there is a lot going on at the moment.”
