Will Hunter took victory in his second final of the season at round three of the National Points Championship Shootout at Buxton Raceway as Frankie Wainman Jr moved into the lead in the chase for the silver roof.

Hunter made to flying start in the 31-car meeting final before the race was stopped after two laps when Jacklyn Ellis needed medical attention after hitting the Turn 3 Armco at speed.

“Something broke on my car halfway down the straight and I was carrying too much speed to stop,” said Ellis. “My head and ankle are a bit sore. I’m OK though.”

Once the race went green George Elwell soon took the lead. But Hunter, in his Tom Harris-built Tarmac car, was able to chase him down after halfway and pull clear.

Behind the front pair, Lee Fairhurst, Harris and Wainman Jr were battling for third place, when Harris fired Fairhurst into the Turn 1 Armco with three laps to go.

Both cars clattered the fence, resulting in Harris needing attention.

The race was stopped, with Hunter announced as the winner. Elwell finished second, with Wainman Jr third.

“It was a fairly straightforward race,” said Hunter. “I got a great start and never looked back. It couldn’t have gone more to plan.

“We made some major changes to the car this weekend, as we had been slightly off the pace since we got the car and it made a massive difference.”
