January’s two-day Brean Stages Rally cancelled for 2019

-

Next year’s Brean Stages Rally, which was scheduled to run on the last weekend of January, has been cancelled.

The popular two-day, 12-stage rally is based at Brean Leisure Park near Burnham-on-sea and comprises stages running along the service and perimeter roads around a holiday caravan park.

The organiser, Club Rallysport West, and management from Brean Leisure Park in Somerset have released a joint statement on the CRSW website which states: “This decision has been made in order to support and retain the goodwill and friendship of the [Brean Leisure Park] management and staff, which we have enjoyed over the past years.”

Brean Stages’ Rod Mckenna added: “Brean leisure Park has a lot going on at the moment, which will extend in 2019. In order to assist them we have mutually agreed to take a ‘gap’ year regarding the running of the rally. Hopefully we will be back in 2020 on our traditional end of January date.”

Since the event began in 1997 it has become a perennial favourite with clubman competitors as the tight, twisty course allows lower powered, two-wheel-drive cars to challenge the frontrunning four-wheel-drive machinery. The event is also an early-season counter for a number of regional championships including the ASWMC Sealed Surface, Heart of England and Cotswold Motor Sports Group series.
