Newby Jr’s last-gasp woe hands victory to dad
Organiser: Eastwood & DMC When: October 7 Where: Fulbeck, Lincs Championships: ANEMMC, EMAMC, ANCC Stages: 8 Starters: 60 There was a dramatic finale at Fulbeck when, after setting the pace on the first six stages, Arron Newby/ Sam Bailey’s Subaru Impreza retired on the penultimate stage with a front wheel pushed into the arch. This handed the win to Arron’s father Stuart Newby/andrew Leech.
Newby Sr had been second all day but had Martin Farrar/andy Ward close in during the second half. At the finish they were only a second apart.
Mick Pickles/richard Copsey’s Impreza had been fourth until retiring on the penultimate stage, which also claimed James Lepley/ Howard Pridmore’s Escort and Phil/ Mick Gallagher’s Mitsubishi Lancer, both with transmission issues.
Martin Pavier/pete Kettle’s Impreza completed the podium, with Luke Sparrow/robert Ginn’s Impreza fourth. Dave Hornbrook/ Ann Forster’s Lancer E9 and Connor Tolson/steve Mcnulty’s Impreza completed the top six.
