Barbados regular Swann will drive an Escort Mk2 for the first time in December

-

Tempest Rally winner and Barbados rally frontrunner Rob Swann will drive a Ford Escort Mk2 for the first time on the Mini Tempest Deepcut stages later this month.

Brit Swann has focused mostly on rallying his Subaru Impreza S12B WRC in Barbados in recent years.

“The Subaru won’t be back in time from Barbados, it’s on its way back for a freshen-up over the winter,” said Swann.

“Steve Finch has lent me his Mk2 Escort and that will be a new experience for me. I’ve had Escort Cosworths and an Escort G3 when I did BTRDA back in the day. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Swann wanted to help out the Sutton and Cheam Motor Club event run in tandem with the Craven Motor Club, having initially not planned to take part.

“I’m a big fan of the Tempest rallies: I’ve won the gravel rally a few times, I saw the entry and didn’t think I’d have a car.

“But then I saw they were struggling for entries so I rallied around a few people to try and drum up the entries.”

The event takes place for one time only on the Princess Royal Barracks, Deepcut. The MOD facility will close next year, so this is the last chance for an event there.

It is a non-spectator event so the only chance to watch is to marshal. Contact davewhyman@ hotmail.com for details.
