Boost for historic Rally car register
Motorsport News has teamed up with the Historic Rally Car Register to sponsor the Clubmans Road Rally Championship in its 25th anniversary season.
The Motorsport News Clubmans Road Rally Championship will take in nine mainly one-day events from Kent to Cumbria, starting with the Tour of Cheshire on Saturday March 2 and concluding with the Devils Own Rally on Saturday, October 19.
The rallies for pre-1985 cars take in regularity sections on public roads and timed special tests on private land. Rounds of the championship are often over-subscribed and feature strong competition. Cars are divided into four age categories and are split at 1968, 1974 and 1981 while crews are graded as masters, experts and novices.
Martin Phaff, the new championship secretary, said: “I’m delighted to have Motorsport News support us, stirring memories of road rallying’s halcyon days.”
Matt James, editor of Motorsport News, said: “It’s great to link up with the Historic Rally Car Register on what will be a momentous season for the Clubmans Championship.
“There will be many exciting chances for us to work together and there are some opportunities which, although we can’t reveal them yet, will be a real benefit – so watch this space.
“Motorsport News is very aware of its heritage in rallying and, with the HRCR championship joining our efforts with the Motorsport News Circuit Championship; it offers us the chance to engage with drivers throughout the country and in a variety of cars.”
