CLASS ROUND-UP

-

First-time Irish visitors John Devlin/john Mccarthy showed a great turn of pace on their first Epynt outing, the pair enjoying the “super fast stages” as they won the two-litre class in their Ford Escort Mk2.

Just seven seconds behind were rivals Phil Turner/terry Martin, who had lost a lot of time on the first loop with coil pack issues on their Escort Mk2 before fighting back on the later stages and finishing in eighth place overall.

Once again, William Mains was fastest of the 1400cc drivers, despite feeling his Vauxhall Nova was underpowered in the warm conditions as he and Sion Jones ran out comfortable class winners. Wyn Owens/ Jenny Evans had a problem-free run to take another road rally class win in their Escort Mk2.

A broken plug lead cost Rhydian Daniels/ Tomos Whittle a number of places as their Citroen C1 Max dropped onto three cylinders. With repairs completed, the pair charged over the later stages to win the 1600cc class and finished 13th overall. Second in class went to Ian Evans/ Justin Brooks, the driver on his first Epynt event for 17 years. A new engine worked well for Christian Prynne/arwel Jenkins who won their class in their Peugeot 205 GTI.

In the Epynt Stages event run over six stages in the afternoon, Rhys Davies/gerwyn James were fastest on five of the tests to take a minute and a half win in their Darrian T90, with Sam Davies/ Darren Lloyd taking second in their Nova after a problem-free run.
