INDYCAR ST PETERSBURG ROUND SWITCHED TO SEASON’S END AND WILL SIGN OFF A 14-ROUND CAMPAIGN

-

This year’s Indycar championship finale will take place at St Petersburg on October 25 after the street race, down originally as 2020’s seasonopener, was rescheduled.

Florida’s traditional curtainraiser round, set initially for March 15 this year, was postponed due to coronavirus. “The streets of St Petersburg will make for a fitting and action-packed finale,” said

Penske Entertainment Corp. president and CEO Mark Miles. St Petersburg mayor Rick Kriseman added: “I am confident that the race will occur in a manner that puts public health at the forefront.”

The revised 2020 Indycar calendar currently contains 14 rounds as the Toronto race, set for July 12, was postponed due to the city announcing last week that it is not allowing major events in July and August on health grounds. The Indycar season is set to start behind closed doors on June 6 at Texas Motor Speedway while the Indianapolis 500 is on August 23.
