RALLY DRIVERS CAN TEST IN ITALY – WITHOUT CO-DRIVERS
Rally drivers were due to resume testing in Italy at the start of the week – but without co-drivers by their side.
As Motorsport News went to press, new Italian government legislation due to come into effect from May 18 is expected to allow “athletes of national interest” to undertake “training activities”.
ACI, the country’s racing body, successfully lobbied for its licence holders to be included in this group, giving hope to motorsport resuming in the country possibly as early as next month.
However, team members such as mechanics and engineers must wear face masks and protective gloves, while also maintaining social distancing, which is one metre in most regions but 1.8 metres in some.
It is understood that a planned further relaxation of restrictions on June 1 will allow co-drivers to take part in tests. At the same time, restrictions preventing travel between different Italian regions will be lifted.
