TANAK FEARED POSITION WITHIN HYUNDAI
World Rally champion Ott Tanak feared he wouldn’t get the same treatment as long-term Hyundai driver Thierry Neuville when he joined the Korean squad for 2020.
Tanak left Toyota for the Germanybased outfit, which Neuville has driven for since 2014.
After a heavy crash on the Monte-carlo Rally, Tanak finished second on the next two rallies in Sweden and Mexico to move up to fifth in the table. “We all know that Thierry has been in the team for a long time,” said Tanak. “He’s been the star. Coming into an environment like that you don’t expect the same kind of attention, but this team has matured and started to be very strong. I’ve been very positively surprised with the approach, and this will show in our results when we return from the break. If you have a good relationship with the team, it will always pay back.”
