PRYCE HASN’T LOST HOPE OF WORLD RALLY RETURN

Welsh star keen to return to the global WRC contest after four years away

Osian Pryce has reiterated his desire to return to the World Rally Championship and had planned to contest a handful of WRC events in 2021 before the coronavirus pandemic took hold.

Pryce thinks a lot of people believe mistakenly that his aspirations have changed after taking a step into historic rallying in recent years. But he says this was purely down to budget, and the 2016 Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy champion is keen to give the WRC another shot.

“There was talks that maybe at the end of this year we were potentially going to put something together for maybe two or three WRC events,” Pryce told MN. “Obviously that is probably going to go out the window [as] we haven’t put any effort into it all since this [pandemic] has happened.”

Pryce – who is second in the BRC – would be interested in a split campaign between

BRC and WRC like Rhys

Yates has done this season, albeit with a skinnier WRC programme than Yates.

“It’s a tricky one because to make WRC a career these days in my level you tend to need a big backer or a manager or a federation behind you,” Pryce said. “We’re constantly in contact with some pretty high-end people but there’s always budgets to contend with but I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing.

“The way I look at it there’s still plenty of life left in me to be competing at the sharp end and when I’m not able to go any quicker or progress anymore that’s when I’ll make the decision and go enough’s enough and we’ll just take a step back,” he added. “But after the result on the

Cambrian and ideally we’d have a decent couple of events this year already and we’d have proved we’re still be able to compete [at WRC level].”
