WHAT’S ON YOUTUBE

- Graham Keilloh

The news that Sebastian Vettel is to step away from Ferrari, and possibly from Formula 1, at the year’s end has brought with it the reflections. And, as seems the case with all modern-day F1 front-liners, the four-time champion divides opinion in and out of the car.

Yet it cannot be denied that Vettel has always been an excellent F1 ambassador. He’s engaging, open and witty, including with audiences well beyond the circus’s perimeter fence. And he underlined this on Top Gear, where in 2011 at the height of his title-bagging pomp at Red Bull he appeared as the show’s Star in a Reasonably Priced Car. And on Youtube you can find an entertaining five minutes of Jeremy Clarkson interviewing Vettel, and Vettel throughout is utterly charming and laugh-out-loud funny. He talks about, among other things, his liking of Harry Enfield’s Jurgen the German character, yet, in defiance of the stereotype, Seb’s not such a fan of David Hasselhoff. Rather he prefers The Beatles though, as he notes to another roar of laughter, with them “it’s a shame there’s no new stuff coming…”
