HERITAGE FF1600 TO SUPPORT BRITISH GT AT OULTON PARK
James Beckett’s championship for FF1600 ‘halcyon days’ pre-1993 cars gets “out of the blue” British GT and F3 slot
The Heritage Formula Ford championship for pre-1993 FF1600 cars will support the British GT and BRDC Formula 3 championships at their season-opening meeting at Oulton Park on April 3-5.
Prolific Formula Ford organiser James Beckett introduced the Heritage category in 2018 for cars considered from FF1600’s ‘halcyon days’. It attracted 22 cars to its season-closing Donington Park meeting last December.
Beckett’s Champion of Brands FF1600 series also supported British GT and F3 on the Brands Hatch GP circuit last August. Heritage will also make a second 2021 Oulton visit at the track’s August Gold Cup meeting.
Beckett told Motorsport News: “Out of the blue
I was asked by MSV whether Heritage would like to join the British GT package for Oulton Park. It’s [British
GT] in my opinion the best place to race in the UK. Oulton Park’s really popular.”
Beckett brought the Champion of Brands series back to the calendar in 2010, and in recent seasons has added Snetterton, Cadwell Park and Donington ‘Champion of…’ meetings.
Beckett also has published expanded calendars for 2021 containing 11 Heritage rounds, including a first visit to
Mallory Park, and nine for the Champion of series including one at Silverstone. Three meetings are combined Heritage and Champion of events. Beckett said the increased numbers are to give competitors options of where and when to compete plus include a “buffer” should there be Covid-related cancellations. “It’s to give people a chance to race because I still predict that 2021’s going to be a difficult year for everybody,” Beckett added.
