SALOON STALWART PARKERMORRIS PASSES AWAY
Tributes pour in for Thundersaloons legend who also turned around CSCC’s Special Saloons series
Motorsport News is saddened to report that Ricky ParkerMorris passed away last week at the age of 60 due to Covid and subsequent pneumonia.
Parker-Morris with brother Danny was integral to developing the Classic Sports Car Club’s Special Saloons and Modsports series over recent years. As well as being a skilled racer, ParkerMorris also was a committee member and driver representative for the category and did much to encourage participation.
Parker-Morris raced a distinctive Ford Cosworth turbo-powered Peugeot 309, which he also previously raced with distinction in Thundersaloons. The car was built by Parker-Morris with Danny for a feature series in Fast Car magazine, for which they were photographer and editor respectively.
Parker-Morris also last year helped build and modify wards specifically for Covid patients in the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Trust, as well as purified water for
London’s Nightingale Hospital.
CSCC director Hugo Holder told MN: “Ricky was one in a million. He was just a lovely lovely guy. [He was] totally dedicated to racing and Special Saloons and getting the thing going again. Always there willing to help. Always having a laugh which is what it was all about, we were all doing it for fun.”
Fellow CSCC director David Smitheram added: “Considering the position that he’s in as racer and coordinator, I never heard him fall out with anyone. [He was] fast but fair.” The CSCC added that an appropriate tribute to ParkerMorris will be confirmed in the coming weeks. Motorsport News extends its condolences to his family and friends.
