HISTORIC ORGANISERS HOPEFUL ON 2021 CALENDAR
Top clubs continue plans for return-to-racing green light in April
Leading UK historic race organisers are hopeful of starting the 2021 racing season as planned and are pushing ahead with taking entries for events in April and May.
Masters Historic Racing, Motor Racing Legends and the Historic Sports Car Club have all opened their 2021 race entry systems recently and are encouraging competitors to enter events as early as possible. All three promoters have pledged full refunds if race meetings do not go ahead.
The possibility of the historic racing season starting in April remains subject to government and Motorsport UK guidelines and directives but there is a sense of optimism as key Covid-19 markers start to reduce and the UK vaccination programme pushes ahead.
The first major scheduled historic event is the Masters race meeting at Donington Park at Easter (April 2-3), featuring a range of Masters races as well as Historic Formula 2 and Classic Formula 3 from the HSCC. Motor Racing Legends is due to start its season at the Donington Historic Festival (May 1-2).
Rachel Bailey from Masters Historic Racing: “We’re pretty sure we’ll get racing underway. We opened our race entries last week and we’ve had a very good response. We are still hopeful for our Donington Park meeting at Easter and are operating on the basis that it is going ahead.
“We went racing last July soon after the end of the first lockdown. I think we have to accept that it will be fairly Anglocentric to begin with, but we are optimistic and are busy getting everything ready to start the season.”
