SUPER-SUB NICO HULKENBERG LANDS JOB WITH ASTON MARTIN
Formula 1 refugee Nico Hulkenberg has signed with Aston Martin to be its development and reserve driver for the 2021 season
The 33-year-old was called up into the team – which was run under the Racing Point name last term – on three occasions as the regular drivers Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll were forced to miss grands prix due to Covid issues. Hulkenberg raced to a seventh-place result in the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone in August and an eighthplace finish at the Eifel GP at the Nurburgring.
The 2015 Le Mans winner said: “It’s great to get this deal signed up with plenty of notice – last year, I didn’t have quite as much time to prepare before jumping in the car.
“The team knows it can rely on me to step in and do an excellent job. It will also be interesting to help develop the team.”
