SUNINEN RESCUED BY M-SPORT WITH WRC2 DRIVE AS FOURMAUX STEPS UP
Teemu Suninen will step back to the WRC2 championship on the upcoming Croatia Rally.
The Finn’s M-Sport Ford World Rally Team-run Fiesta WRC ride has gone to Adrien Fourmaux for the Zagreb event, leaving Suninen to look elsewhere for a seat.
But M-Sport has come to his rescue, effectively handing him Frenchman Fourmaux’s Fiesta R5 MkII.
“I want to say a big thank you to the team for finding a way for me to compete [in] Croatia,” said Suninen. “It’s an event that wasn’t on my calendar at the start of the year, and the more time we get behind the wheel the better.
“WRC2 is really competitive at the moment. I’ve not driven one of those cars for a long time, but it will be a good experience – discovering new stages, and also rediscovering a car without centre differential; so that
I’m ready for any 2022 testing that might be needed in the coming months.”
Suninen’s last outing in a Rally2 car was on the South Estonia Rally in August 2020 when he finished sixth in class.
Swede Tom Kristensson will partner Suninen in M-Sport’s WRC2 line-up with Briton Gus Greensmith competing in the Cumbria team’s second Fiesta WRC.
