ENTRY-LEVEL ELECTRIC SERIES TO JOIN BRITISH RALLYCROSS
Bosses of the British Rallycross Championship have announced a single-make electric category for entry-level machines which will run alongside the electrically powered cars in the category’s leading Supercar class.
The new Electro Rallycross division will feature Fiat 500s prepared by Polish team Elimen Racing. The series is awaiting final approval of its regulations from motorsport’s governors, Motorsport UK.
Shirley Gibson, head of Retro Rallycross, is working on the UK coordination, and Elimen expects to field a minimum of five cars for the opening weekend of the campaign. A further three cars will be available for hire.
Electric Fiat 500s were sampled during a test at Lydden Hill in 2019, along with the electric Ford Fiesta developed by the Elimen outfit. The Fiesta was built to take part in an electric class in the
Polish Rallycross Championship, which is yet to go ahead.
Three rounds will make up the Electro RX championship in 2021, all at Lydden Hill, accompanying the 5 Nations BRX series. A double-header in May will be followed by another round in November.
