PROCTORS AND NEARYS GET GT CUP WINS

-

Stewart and Lewis Proctor in Balfe Motorsport’s McLaren 720S scored their first GT Cup victory in an eventful first race when more than 40 cars gathered on the Grand Prix layout for round two of this year’s championship.

Front row qualifiers Richard and Sam Neary in their Mercedes and Michael Igoe and Phil Keen’s Lamborghini had problems and the racing became a little too physical for others, leaving Lewis Proctor to grab a golden opportunity and take the lead late in race one. The Mercedes had a puncture and a pitstop infringement penalty. At least they finished the race, unlike the Igoe/Keen Huracan that retired with brake problems.

The Phil Quaife/John Dhillon Lamborghini was second and a late charge earned third for Grahame Tilley/Sennan Fielding’s Nissan, which was promoted after Leo Machitski’s

Barwell Huracan was kicked out for driving standards.

Order was restored in race two, dominated by the Neary Mercedes for their fourth win of the year.

Adam Balon’s solo drive in a Barwell Lamborghini earned second, almost half a minute adrift. He was barely ahead of the recovering Igoe/ Keen car on the road but was helped by a five-second penalty applied for a safety car infringement given to Igoe during his charge.

Behind the GT3 frontrunners GTO cars were best of the rest, and class victories were achieved by John Seale/Abbie Eaton in a Huracan and Richard Chamberlain’s Porsche 935, an early race one retirement.

Almost 80 Caterhams contested four close 7

Race Series encounters and Simon Clark’s Cayman was a double Porsche Club Championship winner, helped by red flag countback in a curtailed second outing.
