HYBRID RULES ARE ON TRACK, SAYS MATTON

-

There will be no delay to the introduction of the hybrid-based Rally1 regulations in the World Rally Championship, according to the man at the top of rallying.

Yves Matton, who heads up governing body the FIA’s rally department, was speaking following last month’s Croatia Rally, which got underway shortly after hybrid kit supplier Compact Dynamics recalled selected components when a fault was discovered.

The Rally1 formula is set to be rolled out for the 2022 season but the parts recall led to suggestions that a 12-month delay might be called for. However, Matton has insisted that would not be the case and that the new regulations are on target.

“Of course, any new product that is being developed encounters challenges,” the Belgian said.

“We are working as one to complete tasks that are synonymous with a development cycle of this nature. At present, we are operating an accelerated process due to delivery delays brought about by the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic but with eight months remaining to the start of the 2022 season, we are on course.”
