FOURMAUX RETAINS PLACE IN TOP-FLIGHT FORD FIESTA WRC FOR PORTUGAL
Adrien Fourmaux’s Croatia Rally heroics have been rewarded with a second
World Rally Car outing in Portugal later this month.
Frenchman Fourmaux, 26, was promoted from M-Sport’s WRC2 squad to its lead WRC team for last month’s sealedsurface counter in Zagreb for what was his first World Rally Car outing on a WRC event.
He finished fifth alongside co-driver Renaud Jamoul, setting a brace of top-two stage times in the process.
Confirming his continued presence in M-Sport’s top team alongside Briton Gus Greensmith, Richard
Millener said: “We were extremely pleased with Adrien’s performance, he surpassed his own expectations. Four years ago he hadn’t even driven a rally car, and now he’s challenging and, at times, outperforming the guys he grew up watching and idolising.
“He has a natural talent and ability that we’re keen to develop, and I’m pleased to confirm that he will return to the Fiesta WRC in Portugal. Discovering the power and performance of the topspecification Fiesta on gravel, this will be a different challenge and he’s under no pressure – but we’re all looking forward to seeing how he performs.”
Millener also confirmed that Finn Teemu Suninen, who swapped places with Fourmaux in Croatia, will continue in WRC2 in Portugal in a Fiesta Rally2 before he swaps back with Fourmaux for Rally Italy.
Suninen finished second on the Sardinia round in 2019 and led after the opening stage last season. Swede Tom Kristensson is set to contest both events with M-Sport in WRC2.
