YATES RETURNS TO BRC WITH M-SPORT
M-Sport driver Rhys Yates will return to the British Rally Championship this season as he believes the series is the perfect fit for where he is in his rallying career at the moment.
Yates, again co-driven by James Morgan, was supposed to do a split programme between the BRC and WRC2 last year before coronavirus brought everything to a halt. While he admitted he could appear in the World championship later in the season, Yates’s primary aim is to lift the British title in 2021.
“That is the plan, for definite,” he told MN. “I want to go out and race, I want to go out and be competitive, and I don’t think there’s any better championship than BRC for that. They’re good rallies, fast drivers and it just suits everything I’m doing at the minute.”
Yates will be up against stiff competition in his Ford Fiesta Rally2, but he wouldn’t have it any other way. He said: “I think there will be a good mix of people. Like I’ve said in the past, the guys up the front in the BRC, you put anyone in the world down Nicky Grist Stages and they’d be up there [against the visitors], the competition and pace is high.”
