ENTRY RUSH MEANS R.A.C. RALLY IS OVERSUBSCRIBED FOR 2021 EDITION
Level of interest has overwhelmed five-day marathon event organisers
The 2021 Roger Albert Clark Rally will run a capacity entry after the event organisers were swamped with demand. Some 180 applications for 135 available entries were taken within two hours of entries opening on Friday morning.
As forest rallying in the UK begins to emerge from a long shutdown, demand for places on the biennial five-day marathon reached fever pitch on Friday morning as crews clamoured to secure a place on the
November 25-29 event.
With 20 places reserved for overseas entries, just 115 places were available for the UK historic and two-wheel-drive field. In the first two minutes, 60 entries were placed.
Rally manager Colin Heppenstall knew that there would be a rush for entries but said that the demand far surpassed his expectations. “We knew that a lot of people were going to be placing entries but to have this level of response is overwhelming. We will still accept applications to go on the reserve list.
“Competitors have not been able to go forest rallying since last February and this shows that there is a big demand for forest events. Because we now run every other year, it is a big occasion for competitors, service crews, marshals and spectators.
“I’m also really pleased about the business that the event is generating for the small companies that work in rallying and also the money that is going to be spent in November in hotels, guest houses, B&Bs and so on. They’ve all had a tough time recently, so an event like this is a real boost.”
