The racing action on TV comes thick and fast with a another busy weekend, and again it’s led by Formula 1 action, this time the Spanish Grand Prix from the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Sky Sports F1 once again offers us a treat in advance with some retro Spanish GP action, aided by some convenient anniversaries. First we have Gilles Villeneuve’s extraordinary rear-guard at Jarama in 1981, shown today (Thursday) at 2000hrs-2030hrs. Then as we creep into tomorrow, at 0015hrs-0100hrs, there are highlights of 1991’s Spanish race, the first at the Barcelona track, and best known for Nigel Mansell and Ayrton Senna’s iconic battle.

Sky Sports F1 and Channel 4 have their usual F1 weekend coverage. The former kicks off with the drivers press conference live this afternoon at 1400hrs-1635hrs followed by the weekendpreviewing F1 Show at 1700hrs-1800hrs. C4’s qualifying highlights are at 1830hrs-2000hrs on Saturday and its race highlights are 1830hrs-2100hrs on Sunday.

Next Wednesday meanwhile ITV4’s World of Sport programme promises a fleeting delve into ITV’s motorsport archives, including ‘a look back at James Hunt, Barry Sheene and a spectacular crash by Kelvin Burt’. This is shown at 1600hrs-1620hrs.
