PAWSON AND WRIDE ARE UNSTOPPABLE AS THEY TAKE 10 STAGES FROM 10 FOR GLORY

-

Steve Pawson and Graham Wride’s Subaru Impreza was never headed on the John Overend Stages, topping the times on five of the 10 stages. The pair took the victory spoils by 27 seconds.

Scott Renshaw/Chris Bullock were seven seconds down on the opening stage, with Martin Farrar/Andy

Ward’s Impreza sharing third with

Dave Hornbrook/Ann Forster’s Mitsubishi Lancer E9.

With Farrar quickest on stage two, he moved up to joint second with Renshaw, but the latter picked up a 30-second penalty for a wrong route, dropping him to ninth.

By half distance Pawson was 17s clear of Farrar, as Hornbrook tied for third with Alistair Hutchinson/St John Dykes’Renault Clio Campus.

Having topped the on the next three stages Pawson had built his advantage to 26s. But Farrar was more concerned over retaining his hold on runners-up spot after Class 4 winner Hutchinson ousted Hornbrook on stage seven and he was only two seconds shy of taking second place on the last stage.

Hornbrook retained a solid fourth, with Craig/Renshaw’s Impreza snatching fifth from Miles Taylor/Cameron Young’s Impreza on the last stage.

Marina Miller/Ian Davidson’s Nissan Micra was unopposed in Class 1.

In Class 2, it was plain sailing for

Adi Collins/Jon Hudson’s Micra. After mechanical woes claimed Chris Platt/Mick Robinson’s Vauxhall Tigra, James Evans/Ffion Davies topped Class 3 in their Fiesta R2.

Allan McDowall/James Robson’s Opel Kadett won Class 5, and in the concurrent Junior Rally, only 0.10s split daylong leaders Archie Swinscoe/ Barry Young’s from Lewis Hooper/ Sam Bilham’s Micra.
